This logo is the Society's original logo, donated by local artist; John Kollock in 1973. This is his original statement to explain the meaning of the symbols: oak stump at top: represents the historical chopped oak on the Cherokee war trail, where the Indians blazed a record of their scalps taken. It was cut down by an early pioneer, again symbolically showing the end of the Indian in this area. Crossed long rifle and war club on the outline of the present county: the mixed history in names and places, even today, of the Pioneer and Indian. The plow: Pioneer life. The spinning wheel: Pioneer home life, and present day milling. The apple and corn: crops that played a part in the survival of the area". © John Kollock
